Questions & Answers

What does Weibel Scientific do?
Weibel Scientific has delivered test equipment for over 70 years, primarily to public organizations in the aerospace, defense, forensic-science and automotive sectors, and has invested more than $50 million in modern electronic research and development. As the leading global producer and exporter of continuous wave Doppler radars, Weibel Scientific guarantees superior high-technology products, today and in the future.

How has Weibel Scientific developed over the years?
Weibel Scientific has been engaged in technology since 1936 when Marius Peter Weibel founded the Danish electronics company M. P. Weibel. In 1977, with the ownership of Erik Tingleff Larsen, the company changed its name to Weibel Scientific and gradually moved from the production of optical detectors into its pioneering work with radar systems. The success of this venture allowed Weibel Scientific to expand beyond the Danish borders with the opening of Weibel GmbH in Germany in 1989 and Weibel Equipment Inc. in the U.S. in 1993

From 1992, Erik Tingleff Larsen ran the privately owned, independent corporation jointly with current CEO and President Peder R. Pedersen. In 2002, Pedersen assumed sole responsibility for Weibel Scientific’s day-to-day management, with Larsen remaining sole shareholder and chairman of the board. Weibel Scientific achieved ISO 9001:2000 certification in 2005.

Today more than 40 people work at the company headquarters in Alleroed, north of Copenhagen, designing and producing the world’s most advanced Doppler radars. With a creative and innovative eye for business and technology, Weibel Scientific’s management and staff have taken the company to where it is today: number one in the production and development of Doppler radars.

What kinds of radars do Weibel Scientific produce?
Weibel Scientific has developed five major groups of Doppler radar systems. The state-of-the-art product lines include muzzle velocity radars for field artillery; compact Doppler radars for R&D and forensic investigation; precision and accuracy velocity tracking radars for artillery; and long-range tracking radars for aircrafts, UAVs, satellites, and space shuttles. These superior instruments rely on continuous wave Doppler principles and the latest technologies to measure the velocity and dynamic behavior of moving objects in real time. Weibel Scientific furthermore enhances its radars with multiple receivers and advanced signal processing in order to pinpoint real-time locations of moving objects – be they one or many.

What are the uses of a Weibel radar?
Weibel Scientific is the world’s leading producer of continuous wave Doppler radars for use in the aerospace, defense, forensic-science, leisure, and automotive industries. Weibel Scientific provides its customers with advanced mission-critical radar systems that allow for everything from safer space travel to improved police investigations to enhanced soldier protection.

Today Weibel radars are an important tool in ensuring astronaut safety by monitoring tiny pieces of foam or other debris during the launch and the shuttle’s flight through the atmosphere into space.

Weibel radars also help police forces and forensic scientists study the dynamic behavior of fired projectiles. Specifically, the Weibel fixed-head Doppler radar enhances ballistic research by measuring the speed of a fired projectile through the entire trajectory.

“This is a stable and solid company, unaffected by economic up and downturns. Our popularity with our customers is the constant.”
